Scripture… As We Live It #237

This is the 237th passage in “Scripture… As We Live It.”

The one who observes the day Christmas, observes it in honor of the Lord… while the one who abstains or says, “Happy Holidays,” abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God is a pagan, a heretic, a non-Christian, and an all around bad person. (Romans 14:6 re-mix)

‘Tis the season to laugh and cry at the same time because of the truth behind this remix: I literally laughed out loud, then stopped myself in sadness. Yes, I see it all around me (sometimes too close for comfort). But, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Alan: Are you talking about the early Puritans in America along with some of our Baptists predecessors and ancestors…? They did not celebrate Christmas for several reasons.

    James,

I usually don’t reply to SAWLI comments, because I like it when people interpret my re-mixes on their own. But, I have found it very interesting to study how “Christmas” was viewed by followers of Jesus throughout history. It is quite eye-opening.

    Tom,

Here’s a good (short) article to start with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas#Reformation_into_the_19th_century.

Alan: I actually went through a period in the 60s, when I did not celebrate Christmas…being associated with a Landmark group in eastern Ky,..for awhile. Eventually I got out of it with the help of Spurgeon.
