Who are you? Who, who, who, who?

Who are you? Who, who, who, who?

About once a year, I like to give my readers a chance to introduce themselves to me and to one another.

You see, one of the great things about my blog is the awesome discussions that take place in the comments of my posts. Oh, there are times when there are fewer comments, and there are times when there are more comments. There are times when the comments get off topic; sometimes I follow the commenters down the rabbit trail, and sometimes I choose not to.

Either way, I always love to hear from the different perspectives of my readers. But, I also love to learn more about you. I think it’s easier for us to understand one another the more we know each other.

Obviously, there are limitations to how much was can know one another online, but anything we can know more about each other helps.

So, what would you like to share about yourself? Where are you from? Where do you live? Are you married? Do you have children? What is your profession? What are passions or concerns? (I do ask that you focus on telling us about yourself and not talking against others.)

If you want to learn a little about me, the best place to start is the “About” page on this blog. However, if you have questions about me, I’ll be glad to answer those as well (maybe).

Well, to start with, I’m a big fan of this blog. :)
I’m from many different places: born in OK, raised in NV and CA (most of my years have been in CA), lived about 4 years (though not exactly consecutively)in Hungary and Slovakia, and I’m currently living in IN. My husband and I will have been married 17 years this fall, and we have two children. Fortunately, I’ve been able to enjoy homeschooling them. We have a small sheep farm and a few chickens.

I blog very little, but for those interested, here is a post that tells lots of my spiritual journey: http://esztertun.wordpress.com/2010/09/19/have-you-read/

Above everything, I want to learn to live by the life the Lord Jesus flowing through me individually and us corporately, meaning with my relatives and friends with whom we have found fellowship in Christ.

    —–

I’m from my mother, but that’s a completely different story. For now I reside in lovely Bethel, CT, along with my covenant bride and our two daughters of thunder.

Professionally I am a trained assassin, but when I’m not out, you know, killin’ folks for the gub’ment, I am a private chef.

I am passionate about: The Bride, my family, and food. I also dabble in personal loans, trash removal, and casino management.

I am concerned about: this blatant invasion of progressive/emergent/fake-Jesus nonsense into The Bride. It is impossible to reshape Him into our image so we can feel better about our sins (and make Jesus more friendly and approachable), yet this hasn’t stopped them from trying. The Bride’s integrity is my focus right now, according to Ephesians 4:11-16.

    Alan, thanks for asking!

    Sorry, forgot to add:

I really enjoy this blog/site, Alan. There are way too many nominal, fluffy, ear-tickling “christian blogs” out there that simply ensnare people in the folly of remaining as victims, and enabling weakness and mediocrity with stories of emotional familiarity and other such tactics. Fah. All jabber, no substance of The Spirit.

Yours, however, is challenging. In this Internet world of fraudulent christianity which is dog feces with a 24-carat gold spray coating, yours is legit.

Hello, I am a realtor and homeschool mom :)
I am from southern CA but now reside in Fort Worth Texas
I am a child of Jesus, and striving to be like Him. I am a huge fan of Alex and his blog :)
I love to sing, especially praise! I was on praise and worship team at a church, and I really miss that. I was also host of a home group which was like family to me, and I miss that a lot too. I am really lonely now…
I use facebook to try and connect with other believers. It helps but I do not find it as fulfilling as in person connections. I think I am growing through being set free from institutional church though. Blessings!

Thanks everyone! It’s great to learn a little more about you.

Alan, thanks so much for your blog, and thanks for this opportunity.

    “Where are you from?”

I was born on the island of Jamaica to missionary parents. For the first years of my life, we lived between there and Maryland. We moved back to the US when I was 16. I went to college in South Carolina.

    “Where do you live?”

I currently live in northern Kentucky (near Cincinnati).

    “Are you married?”

I married my amazing wife Tessa less than two months ago! She blogs at the following site: http://www.tessamcknight.com/

    “Do you have children?”

I don’t think my wife is pregnant yet, though I could be wrong.

    “What is your profession?”

I’m a web content editor for Answers in Genesis. While I mostly do editing and formatting, they occasionally let me write for them. You can the articles I’ve done for them at the following link: http://www.answersingenesis.org/get-answers/k/author-chuck-mcknight/v/popular

    “What are passions or concerns?”

My passion is for the church. I often get caught up in the problems with the physical form of how we “do church,” but my real desire is to see the church truly “be the church.” It’s all about those one-anothers.

I almost forgot. I blog too.

    Sorry I am late,
I am a follow of Jesus 36 years down eternity to go.
I am a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, friend.
I am a grateful reader of this blog, although I usually read it late at night after most have commented.
I am a reader and student.
I enjoy the friendships and fellowship the Lord brings into my life. One of my greatest thrills is watching people I love get closer to Jesus.

    Alan,

I live Concord NC! I am married and I have six children. My wife and I home school and we assemble in home with a couple of other families on Sunday. I meet several mornings a week with other brothers, but I also desire to meet with other people who are not Christs and to converse with them as the Holy Spirit leads. This seems to be what I am being directed by the Lord to do. Though,I am currently meeting with several guys who have left institutional church, I desire to dialogue the nonbeliever as well.

I am currently the Creative Manager at a Printing/display company.
I hope that gives you some idea of who I am. Thank you for your blog and your obedience to the Lord. I guess I have a question for you. Do you know Dennis Darville? He is at SEBTS.

I live in southern NJ, just minutes from Philly. I have been married for 26 years and we have 4 children; a 23 yr old boy, engaged to be married in Oct., a 21 year old boy who got married last Sept. and as of December, will have in hand his first child, a 20 year old daughter, engaged to be married in May, and a 15 year old daughter, who is…well, 15. I won’t mention the 3 dogs and 3 cats. Oh…just did.

I have followed Jesus since I was 14, as of the fall of ’76. What an interesting road it has been.

I was in the Navy in the early 80’s, having been part of the commissioning crew aboard the USS Carl Vinson. I was a lithographer (offset printer).

I have been in the printing profession for over 30 years, mostly running small offset presses. I currently work for a Sir Speedy in Pennsauken, NJ as well as an Alphagraphics in Cherry Hill, NJ. Yup, 2 jobs. Digital technology has changed things for nearly everyone who touches paper for a living (just ask the postal service).

I am currently part of a large Christian Missionary Alliance church, but I am praying about the idea of a smaller gathering as has been described in your posts. Waiting on the Lord.

I desire to reflect the love of Jesus…to my “one another’s” as well as my “neighbors”. It starts with my family, goes on to the brethren and together as well as individually, we need to do and be love to a lost and dying generation.

  11. 8-3-2012

    Alan,

I just realized, after re-reading the post title, that this is a play off of Who Are You? by The Who. (I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer…)

  12. 8-3-2012

I’m Fred. I haven’t commented in a long time although I read all the posts. After working in two “organic” churches that died, I’ve joined with a more institutional, although different, gathering of Christians. A few months back, Alan said something about being able to find Church within the institutional church. My wife and I have found that. While there are things I would prefer would be done differently, it is a community of faith centered in Jesus and committed to discipling each other and bringing the Kingdom to our city.

  13. 8-4-2012

I am 57, married 34 years, 3 grown kids, live 25 miles SE of Atlanta airport. Believer since late 1979. Looking for a more organic expression in an ekklesia, though it is very difficult to find around these parts.

Work in the automotive field for 37 years. 20 as a mechanic, 17 self-employed performing mechanical break-down verification inspections for automotive extended warranty companies.

This post title immediately caught my attention since I was a fan of the Who, even saw them in concert back in 1973.

It is a good thing that there are mediums such as this blog, where I can converse, somewhat, with others who are on the same journey. Though I miss a localized expression, these blogs do offer an outlet and resource while taking this journey.

Keep up the good work my brother.

Thanks again for introducing yourself, everyone!

    Daniel,

I have met Dennis, and we know each other by name, but we’ve never had a chance to get to know each other.

    Alan,
I have been reading your post for about 9 months, I came across it from a link from thesidosblogspot. I am 52 ,married for 28 years , 4 children. we all work out of our home family cabinet shop. I mostly read and rarely respond, but after reading you post on July 16th it was what i needed that evening. (it almost caused me to break out the keyboard to give words of appreciation). sorry it took so long. I appreciate your thoughts and style of writing.

I am Susan, aka VelvetVoice, because I want to be heard. I am 511, live in CT with my husband and daughter. I was looking for views on women in the ministry, also looking for a list of reasons for leaving a church. This blog is interactive rather than instructive, and it is down-to-earth rather than restrictive and authoritative. I am trying to be open-minded without being naive or blowing with the latest trend. I have an MBA in Finance and Economics, and I love computers and numbers and data.
