Scripture… As We Live It #118

This is the 118th passage in “Scripture… As We Live It.”

For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established — that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me since I am a leader in the church you need help from me, but I don’t need help from you. (Romans 1:11-12 re-mix)

(Please read the first post for an explanation of this series.)

One of my favorite passages. Paul could hardly teach mutuality if he did not practice it, because much of his teaching was (as should be ours) by example as he worked together with others.

or perhaps, “that is, that you may be encouraged by my sermon”…

How sad… I’m told the average sermon requires 10 hours of preparation during the week… How much real encouragement could occur in 10 hours of mutuality among the brothers and sisters during the week?!?!

We talked about this for sometime last week Alan.

I was saying how great would you feel if the Apostle Paul expected to grow from you? And how much more would our local fellowships be encouraged if they could encourage their pastors? The problem is most pastors run off to “pastor conferences” to get encouraged.

So horribly true. We have been in churches that are happy to have us listen and take in but are totally closed to any input in return. In fact the leader surrounds himself with yea sayers that shield him from any other input.
