The Assembling of the Church

the weblog of Alan Knox
And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.
(Heb. 10:24-25 NASB)

Selling and distributing…

June 30, 2007 By: Alan Knox Category: community, fellowship, love, service

Luke records this amazing fact about the believers just after Pentecost:

And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. (Acts 2:45 ESV)

Has anyone ever experienced something like this, either affecting yourself or someone you know? Is this common or uncommon today? Why?

  1. Strider says:

I have never seen this verse explained- just explained away. Here in Middle Earth we try to live so that all of our possessions are available to all who need them with priority to those within the body. But it ain’t always easy! I will add that many times for me possessions are easier to part with than time. As a westerner this seems to be my main hurdle in sharing freely.

  2. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about this very topic. I’ve never been a part of something like this, but I would like to. In fact, if I could be involved in something like this, and could use the pooled resources to do “lay ministry” by taking in people off the street… I’d probably continue to work in computers for the rest of my life. Call me crazy, but I’m tired of trying to live the American Dream
